Minecraft 1.21 Support Now Available

New Features in 1.21

Trial Chambers: Built for Co-op

Trial chambers are the headline feature — procedurally generated structures that host 'trial spawners', which only activate when a player is nearby and scale their difficulty with the number of players. This makes them perfect co-op content for community servers.

Inside a chamber you'll find trapped vaults, reward chests, and corridors patrolled by breeze mobs and their wind charges. The best loot comes from ominous trial spawners, which spawn when you use an ominous trial key.

For server owners, trial chambers are a reliable source of mid-game loot, an easy base for trade and events, and a great excuse to run co-op weekend events.

Performance Impact on Your Server

Trial chambers are large structures that can cause a short lag spike when they first generate. Pre-generating chunks immediately after updating — or restarting during low-traffic hours — keeps gameplay smooth. Overall, 1.21 is slightly more demanding than 1.20, mainly due to the new block entities and chambers.

How to Update

To update your existing server to 1.21, log in to the Lodgichost portal, navigate to your server settings, and select "Change Version". Choose version 1.21 and confirm. Your server will restart with the new version. We recommend creating a backup before updating, as some plugins and mods may not yet be compatible.

Updating an Existing Server (Paper / Spigot / Purpur)

If you manage your server manually instead of using the Lodgichost portal, updating is a simple jar swap. Stop the server, back up your world folder, replace the old jar with the new 1.21 build, and start the server once. Run:

The server will generate any new configuration files on first launch. If your server uses many plugins, update them at the same time and check each plugin's compatibility page before switching.

Mod and Plugin Compatibility

Most major plugins and mod loaders have already released 1.21-compatible updates. Paper, Spigot, and Purpur all support 1.21. For modded servers, both Fabric and NeoForge have released loaders for 1.21, and many popular mods are being updated. If your favourite mod is not yet compatible, we recommend waiting before updating your modded server.
