What Is Chaos Cubed?

Chaos Cubed is Mojang's Summer 2026 themed drop. Its centerpiece is the Sulfur Caves biome — a vast underground cavern system filled with sulfur crystal formations, ambient green glow, and new hazards. The update derives its name from the star block: the Sulfur Cube, a volatile resource block that can be detonated or used in redstone contraptions.

In our testing on a vanilla 26.2 server, the most striking change is how quiet the deepslate layer suddenly is before you start mining — the sulfur caves spawn between Y -16 and Y -48, so the moment your players dig below diamond level they will start encountering green-tinted fog and crystal clusters. That makes this the first update in years where strip-mining is genuinely rewarding rather than just a chore.

• Sulfur Caves biome: Generates deep underground between Y -16 and Y -48. Features sulfur crystal clusters, green-tinted fog, and unique ambient sounds

Preparing Your Server

Updating to 26.2 is straightforward from the Lodgichost portal — just select the new version from the Change Version menu. However, there are a few things to check before you flip the switch:

• Paper / Purpur: Builds for 26.2 were released on launch day. Update your server jar from the portal
• Plugins: WorldGuard, GriefPrevention, and CoreProtect have all released 26.2-compatible builds. Check each plugin's Hangar or Spigot page
• Anti-exploit plugins: Because sulfur cubes are player-detonatable, some servers may want to limit or disable them in the overworld using WorldGuard region flags
• Datapacks: Most vanilla-compatible datapacks should work, but any that modify cave generation may conflict with the new biome

• Caustic Potions shift the metagame: servers that run straight PvP should expect caustic damage over time to become a common loadout, and balance any kits or spawn-protection rules accordingly

Known Issues

Mojang's 26.2 changelog lists a few tracked bugs: sulfur cube detonations can occasionally despawn items in a small radius, and the Gas Mask enchantment does not stack with Respiration. Workarounds are expected in the first patch release.
